Chocolate Truffle Cake

£80.00

A rich, deeply chocolatey cake with a smooth, velvety texture and a luxurious truffle-like finish. Made for those who like their chocolate desserts truly indulgent, it balances the intensity of dark chocolate with a soft, melting mouthfeel. Best served in slender slices, perhaps with crème fraîche, pouring cream or a good coffee alongside.

History

Chocolate truffle cake takes its name from the classic chocolate truffle, rather than the fungus. The original chocolate truffle is thought to have developed in France in the late 19th or early 20th century, made from a simple ganache of chocolate and cream, then rolled in cocoa powder to resemble the prized black truffle.

As chocolate desserts became more refined through the 20th century, pastry chefs began applying the same idea to cakes: rich chocolate, cream, butter and a dense, almost ganache-like texture. The result is a cake that sits somewhere between a classic gâteau, a torte and a chocolate truffle — elegant, intense and made for serious chocolate lovers.
